An amazing near perfect Gem! During the Civil War, there was a shortage of circulating gold and silver coins. The Mint made a limited amount of coins, and most people were too busy trying to survive to save coins for future generations. So the 1860-65 issues are quite rare, especially in Gem condition. This amazing 1864 is one of only two graded such by PCGS in the past 35 years. It is one of the finest specimens we have ever seen. The surfaces are mark-free. The strike is as sharp as a proof. The luster is white and iridescent. An fantastic Civil War jewel!
