Description

A golden toned, fully struck beauty! The Capped Bust half dollar was minted from 1807 to 1836. They were a real commercial workhorse. At the time, many people worked for a dollar an hour, and for many, the weekly wage was $16. Silver dollars were minted from 1794 to 1803, so large transactions needed either gold or silver half dollars. And with daily wages only a dollar or two, these silver half dollars were used, not saved!. Dial it up 200 years or so, and Capped Bust half dollars are super popular with coin collectors, and Capped Bust half dollars are one of the most important 19th Century silver type coins. They are high demand coins even in lower grades. But they are very scarce in high grades, and truly rare in Gem condition. This is a spectacular Capped Bust half dollar. The surfaces are super clean and mark-free. The strike is amazing, with full star, hair, curl, claw, and feather detail. The eye appeal is enhanced by totally original deep golden toning…absolutely proving the coin’s originality. This is a great coin for starting a 19th Century silver type set, or to just put away a great early coin
