1895-S 50C MS 66
|Type:||Barber Half Dollar|
|Category:||Barber Half Dollar (1892-1915)|
Condition Census Gem from this important series! The Barber half dollar series is one of the classic of the U.S. rare coin market. And the early San Francisco and New Orleans branch Mint issues are very underrated in all grades, especially in Gem condition. For the 1895-S we’ll quote expert David Akers, “In Gem condition, the 1895-S Barber Half Dollar is one of the rarest issues in the series, certainly in the upper third of the 74 total issues.” In 35 years, PCGS has only graded three examples MS66, with just three graded higher. So this is a condition census “finest known” example. The auction record is $85,000 for one of the MS67s. This jewel has super clean surfaces and an exceptionally bold strike. The luster is frosty white with light golden rainbow peripheral toning. The eye appeal is fantastic.
