1881 $2.50 PR 65
A major gold rarity! The 1881 $2.5 gold piece is a super low mintage date in all forms. The commercial strike is an ultra low mintage of only 640 coins, one of the lowest mintages of all U.S. $2.5 gold pieces 1796 to 1929. Of those, it is estimated that only about 100 exist today in all grades. For proofs, the rarity is even more acute. There were only 51 proofs originally struck. Of those, it is estimated that only 30 to 35 survive today in all grades. This beauty is at the top of the condition charts for this rarity. It is a deeply mirrored Gem. This specimen also has unattributed beautiful light white Cameo devices. The eye appeal is spectacular and it seems to be very conservatively graded.
