One of the finest known! The 1827 is a major early gold rarity. It is estimated that only 30 exist today in all grades. Like all early $5 gold pieces the 1827 is a very rare and highly desirable rarity. And it has great early price histories. It has often been a highlight in major auctions. This specimen first appeared in the Stacks auction of the famous Farish Baldenhofer collection in 1955. It also appeared in the 1976 ANA auction. This Choice Mint State coin is considered the fourth finest known. The three “better” specimens are basically unavailable and the last sale was in 2008 at $322,000. The strike is bold and the surfaces are very clean. The luster and color is fresh and original. This is a beautiful example of this major rarity
