Description

Extremely rare early Proof!!! Now were talking about ultra rarity. Prior to the Civil War, the Mint only made few proofs each year. They were basically made for a few “connected” collectors. Most of the coin collectors of the time just weren’t interested in proofs, though the quality of the coins was obviously exceptional. Beginning in 1858, the Mint began making a greater number of proofs and actually offering them to collectors in a more organized way. At first, only a few hundred of each denomination were struck, By the 1950’s, the Mint was striking hundreds of thousands of each denomination per year. For pre-1858 proofs, original mintages were usually about ten coins per year. Bottom line: all pre-1858 proofs are ultra rarities! For the 1835 Capped Bust dime, it is estimated that 10 or less were originally minted, of which only four or five exist today.. So this ultra rarity’s Gem condition is not only spectacular, it’s downright miraculous. This is an unquestionable proof. The fields are mirrored and the design details are razor sharp. One very light golden patina confirms the originality of this incredible rarity. Probably less than five known…Great rarity and spectacular condition!
