Description
From the incredible Pogue collection! The Capped Bust quarter is one of the most important 19th Century silver type coins. This is the last year of the so-called “large size” Capped Bust design. This is an amazing Gem…one of only five examples graded MS65 by PCGS in the past 37 years, with just two graded higher. The surfaces are super clean, and the eye appeal features beautiful deep rainbow toning. What is truly exceptional about this jewel is the amazing strike. Every element of the design is razor sharp. This coin is so sharply struck that it is the kind that 100 years ago dealers would (mistakenly) try to sell as a proof. The Pogue collection is the finest collection of early (1792-1840) Federal coins ever assembled. We knew Brent Pogue quite well and can tell you he had a great eye and was super knowledgeable. For over 30 years, he and his father bought every fantastic coin that came on the market…the best of the best. And if there was a coin in an auction, they wanted…well, you just couldn’t out bid them. So, if this was the 1828 quarter Brent put in his family’s collection, you can bet he thought it was the finest one on the market in the past 30 plus years
