Description

1894 $5 Liberty, Gem Deep Cameo Proof PR65DCAM Ultra rare gold proof…and one of the finest known!!!! 19th Century proof Liberty gold is the beach front property of the rare coin market. These coins are ALL ULTRA RARE IN ALL GRADES! Because the Mint at the time was basically striking proofs upon demand (request), the original mintages were quite small at the time for two reasons. First, The face value of the gold Liberty proofs was too high for most people to save coins as the average hourly wage at the time was fifteen cents. So mintages are low, and survival rates are lower still. Secondly, the 1890’s were a time of great economic stress in the United States. The so-called “Panic of 1893” caused a depression from 1893 to 1897. Unemployment rose to 17% and Industrial production dropped 15.3 %…so, not an ideal time to save five and ten dollar gold pieces. For the 1894 proof $5 Liberty, the original mintage was only 75 coins, of which an estimated only 30 to 40 survive in all grades. So this is an ultra rare coin, and the condition is spectacular. …the surfaces are extremely deeply mirrored. The devices are thick creamy white Cameo. The eye appeal is out of this world as the coin seems to jump out of the holder…a proof gold rarity coin in spectacular condition….WOW!
